INRIA is completing its overview of modeling in the broad field of the life sciences with a special feature presenting such varied research areas as ecosystem conservation, natural resource management improvement, understanding of epidemics, gene regulation networks in bacteria, observation of animal motions and the study of molecular behavior.
In our previous features, the research presented concerned what modeling contributes to the understanding of the human organism, progress in medicine and bioinformatics research.

The Academy of Sciences awarded the 2005 Marcel Dassault Grand Prize to Alain Dervieux for the quality of his work. Alain Dervieux is an INRIA senior research scientist with project TROPICS who specializes in computational fluid mechanics. He is the inventor of the finite element-volume method. The Academy of Sciences also awarded the Michel Montpetit Prize to Pierre Comon and the Jacques-Louis Lions Prize to Jean-Claude Nédélec, both senior research scientists at CNRS.

INRIA technology at the heart of next generation video games:

INRIA and Eden Games, a subsidiary of the Infogramme/ATARI group, have signed an agreement for the use of an INRIA technology to optimize sound simulation in the game engine developed by Eden for next generation game consoles. "Test Drive Unlimited" is the first game that integrates this technology. The game was presented at the moment at the largest video game trade show worldwide, E3 in Los Angeles. The press release.

Hubert Curien passed away February 6, 2005:

Minister of Research from 1984 to 1986 and from 1988 to 1993, Hubert Curien passed away February 6, 2005. During its mandate of President of the CNES, he was appointed Chairman of the Scientific Council of INRIA from 1980 to 1984. A close colleague of Jacques-Louis Lions, Hubert Curien was unremitting in his support of the Institute.
INRIA and the entire scientific community presents its condolences to his family and honors his memory.
