The French Science Fair (Science en fête) will be held on the 10th to 12th October, 1997. On this occasion, the research units of INRIA Sophia Antipolis and INRIA Rocquencourt will open their doors to the public. An opportunity for everyone to discover how a research institute works and what the researchers do.
Computer aided cooperative work is a recent and promising field. It is at the
crossroads of a number of other areas, notably scientific and technical.
The Rusken initiative
was created in this context. Its goal is to design an
operational and innovative platform offering services for cooperative work.
Researchers at IRISA-INRIA Rennes are working on the perception of group
activity. The participants at a tele-meeting are represented in a 3D virtual
building. Each one can visualize the activity of the others in the building and
manipulate the shared documents and objects.
The Rusken activities make it possible to transfer the result of the research
conducted at IRISA, for example the handling of multi-user three-dimensional
scenes, the management of the quality of service of distributed software or
toolboxes for the development of applications for distributed cooperative work.
