This book, published following the Conference on Fractals in Engineering, organized by INRIA in June 1997, describes the most recent evolutions in fractal applications. It deals with both the theoretical and practical aspects of research in fractal analysis and its industrial application in engineering. Meant for all scientists working in fractals, it presents a wide range of topics: multifractal analysis, signal processing, chemical engineering, image compression, network traffic analysis, environmental science, and various other themes.
* Jacques Lévy Véhel and Evelyne Lutton are researchers at INRIA Rocquencourt (Fractales project). Claude Tricot is spending a sabbatical year in the Fractales project.
This conference is jointly organized by the International Council for Computer Communication, in partnership with INRIA, France Télécom, Cnet, Eurécom, Aérospatiale Espace & Défense, Ifip and Telecom Valley. It wants to give a global perspective on computer communication technologies and provide a timely spectrum of themes on technology on an international basis. Several topics are on the programme of ICCC '97: video, multimedia, ATM networks, transport protocols, distributed systems, Internet, among others. INRIA will then publish the proceedings of this conference.
