The Cogenit technological company, specializing in telecommunication networks, together with INRIA have designed a cryptography software called "Scrhypp." This product runs on Unix machines connected to the Internet.
Various INRIA project teams are involved in this work as experts: project Codes for anything that concerns the choice of cryptographic primitives and protocols, project Algo for the resolution of such algorithmic problems as the generation of large prime numbers for public key cryptography systems and the IPv6 initiative for the integration of the software into the Unix and Internet environments, thus taking into account existing and future standards.
A version of the software, restricted to digital signature, obtained the SCSSI (Central Service for the Security of Information Systems) approval for unrestricted use. This version is available on INRIA's "ftp.inria.fr" server. It can be used to certify the origin of an electronic document and is compatible with the American PGP software, the de facto standard whose use is restricted in France.
A Java implementation is under development that will allow it to be integrated into numerous email clients, such as "Netscape Communicator", under most operating systems. Other evolutions including other cryptographic functions, such as ciphering, are in project.
