François Sillion has been appointed as Director of the INRIA Grenoble - Rhône-Alpes Research Centre on May 2nd, 2007.
A former student of the ENS (Ecole normale supérieure) in the rue d'Ulm in Paris, he has been a Senior Research Scientist at INRIA since 1998. He was in charge of the ARTIS project-team. He was the Projects Committee Chairman at INRIA Rhône-Alpes. Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique from 1992 to 2004, his work of this is mainly focused on the study of computer-generated image techniques: work on 3D models, expressive rendering, lighting, display of very large volumes of data and data acquisition from real images. He also sits on the editorial boards of the ACM Transactions on Graphics and Computer Graphics Forum journals and the EUROGRAPHICS workshops. In addition to being a member of the ACM SIGGRAPH, IEEE Computer Society, AFIG and EUROGRAPHICS professional associations, he chaired the last workshop on rendering.
