On 1st March 2007, Gérard Le Lann is appointed as scientific adviser to the Technology Transfer and Innovation Department for national incentives and partnerships in the fields of defence and systems safety.
He holds an Engineer Degree and a Ph.D, both in Computer Science. He is internationally renowned for his work in the domains of computer networks and distributed real-time dependable computing systems. At Stanford University, he was one of the architects of the TCP/internet protocol. He leaves IRISA, after having created the Network & Distributed Systems group, to join INRIA as a Research Director, where he manages several projects that lead to fundamental results in the area of asynchronous distributed algorithms, to patents and innovation transfers, such as the real-time local area network installed on the Charles-de-Gaulle aircraft carrier, as well as a number of contracts with European and North American partners. More recently, his research activities and relationships with industry have been centered on proof-based system engineering aimed at critical or autonomous applications.
