Patrick Bouthemy has been appointed as Director of the INRIA Rennes-Bretagne Atlantique research centre as of 1 July 2007.

A graduate of ENST Paris and a recognised specialist of image sequence analysis, Dr. Bouthemy teaches at the University of Rennes 1. He joined INRIA in 1984 as a research scientist, after spending two years at INRS Telecommunications in Montreal.   In 1997, he headed the VISTA project-team (spatio-temporal vision and learning). From 1992 to 2002, he was a member of INRIA's Evaluation Committee and was Chairman of the INRIA Rennes Project Committee between 1998 and 2002. He is currently INRIA's representative in the French-German project, Quaero and Co-Chairman of the forthcoming International Conference on Computer Vision (IEEE-ICCV'2007). Patrick Bouthemy is a Director of Research and has written more than 40 articles for leading international scientific journals. He has directed more than 25 theses and been closely involved in a wide range of collaborative work with industry in the field.
