Bernard Larrouturou was born in 1958. He is an alumnus of
the École Polytechnique, ranking number one in the class of
1980. He holds an engineering degree from the Ponts et Chaussées
(1982) and a doctorate in applied mathematics from the University
of Paris-Nord (1987).
Bernard Larrouturou began his career with an INRIA research unit
at Sophia Antipolis. He was then appointed Director of the CERMICS
(Center for Teaching and Research in computer modeling and scientific
computing), a joint department of the École Nationale des Ponts
et Chaussées and INRIA. On April 24, 1996, he was appointed
INRIA's CEO. He simultaneously carried out graduate teaching and doctoral
advising duties at both the Universities of Nice and Paris VI. He
also was Professor of Applied Mathematics at the École Polytechnique
from 1993 to 1999.
Bernard Larrouturou was and still is a member of the Board of Directors
of many companies: Simulog and Ilog since 1996, Bull and O2-Technology
from 1996 to 1997, Realviz in 1999, Thomson S.A. from 1999 to 2000,
Trusted-Logic since 1999, and Renault S.A. since February 2000. He
is also the manager of the European consortium ERCIM, a group of sixteen
research institutions in computing and applied mathematics from sixteen
different countries.
Bernard Larrouturou is a brilliant scientist with nearly a hundred
publications. He has been awarded numerous scientific prizes and such
distinctions as the Ordre National du Mérite in 1998 and the
Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur in 2003.
