communiqué de presse

Paris, November 16, 2007

The EADS Foundation, the École Polytechnique, and the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA) create an international academic and research endowed chair at the École Polytechnique.

The joint efforts of these three partners will focus on a scientific program in mathematical modeling and numerical simulation. The ambition of this advanced research program is to strengthen the scientific activity in this area crucial to technological development and industrial innovation.

The partners will endow the chair with a consolidated budget of 1 M€ per year during 4 years to fund joint research teams of the École Polytechnique and INRIA in this field. The  École Polytechnique Foundation will distribute that part of the funding, given by the EADS Foundation, to contribute to specific actions of the chair, according to its official objectives.

About INRIA

The mission of the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control is to carry out research in Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies (ICST). Through six research units located in seven major regions, INRIA employs a workforce of 3,700 people, including 2,900 scientists (from INRIA and associate organisations). INRIA's annual budget is €162 million (excluding VAT), 20% of which comes from its own resources (contracts, licences). INRIA plays a decisive role in five areas of research: communicative, cognitive, symbolic, numerical and biological systems. INRIA develops many partnerships with industry and fosters technology transfers and business creation (83 enterprises) in the field of ICST, in particular through its affiliate, INRIA-Transfert, who operates four seeding funds.
