Team Presentation

The AIR2 research tean performs active research in the domain of image processing for earth, sea and atmospheric dynamic observation obtained by remote-sensing, and the project is involved in the evolution of environmental phenomena.

Research themes

  • Perceptual image processing : how to set up theoretical models about the visual display of phenomena without referring to physical reality and data acquiring processes. In this field, we mention the study of motion, the segmentation of rainfall areas in clouds, the temporal deformation of curves and surfaces etc.
  • Physical image processing : one wants to get information from images taking into accound the data acquisition process (for instance by considering a radiative transfer model). Regularization constraints corresponding to the estimation of quantities having a physical signification (example : solar irradiation) come from the radiative transfer model.
  • Estimation of environmental parameters from direct or inverse modeling. In this topic one can cite evapotranspiration estimation and the estimation of vertical concentration profiles of trace gazes.

    International and industrial relations

  • Colaboration Chili-CONICYT/INRIA on atmospheric pollution forecast over Santiago.
  • Collaboration PROCOPE with Fraunhofer-FIRST in Berlin on data assimilation within air pollution models.
  • Collaboration Tuniscan Universities (ENIT-ENSI)/INRIA on management and processing of spatio-temporal data.
  • Preparation of a european network of excellence on environmental risk management, funded by Fond National de la Science.
