LANGUE ET DIALOGUE : Human-machine dialogue with a significant language component (project-team)

Project-Team Presentation
LORIA joint project-team with CNRS, University Henri Poincaré, University Nancy 2 and INPL.
The introduction of natural language and more particularly of speech into a man-machine interface necessitates very robust systems for language understanding and interpretation which are well integrated into the application. The objective of the LANGUE ET DIALOGUEe project-team is to define and implement man-machine communication systems with robust and reliable language components.
Research themes
The scientific themes of the LANGUE ET DIALOGUE project-team center around models, techniques and resources for short, medium and long-term implementation of man-machine dialogue systems with a significant language component. In this context, our activities are expanding in three complementary directions:
- study of the fundamental mechanisms of communication in natural language, alone or accompanied with gestural designation (multimodal dialogue). This research is being undertaken in a cross-disciplinary context combining linguistics and computer science;
- implementation of effective dialogue systems, particularly in the context of industrial collaboration. This activity provides us with an experimental platform for validating the various models that we design;
- design of generic methods and tools for refined study of real dialogue situations obtained by transcription experiments and simulations, or by direct observation. This work is based on experience acquired over a number of years with normalisation and manipulation of linguistic resources (in particular "corpus" resources).
