MOVI has been dissolved on 09/01/2006
It has been replaced by LEAR
It has been replaced by PERCEPTION
MOVI (MOdelling for computer VIsion) is an academic research group of approximatively 20 people including 5 permanent researchers, 10 PhD students, 2 post-doctoral fellows and 2 development engineers. From 1990 to 1998 MOVI was lead by professor Roger Mohr and since October 1998 MOVI is lead by doctor Radu Horaud. MOVI is an ``INRIA project'' composed of INRIA, CNRS, as well as university researchers and faculty members: Edmond Boyer, Cordelia Schmid, Peter Sturm, and William Triggs.
MOVI is equipped with the most modern camera and video devices with their associated hardware and software, allowing, among others, digital video streams to be synchronized and simultaneously transferred to a desktop computer. MOVI owns two robots with their harware and software: a six degrees of freedom manipulator and a 5 degrees of freedom Cartesian gantry.
The research carried out by MOVI focuses on the computational aspects of vision, especially 3-D reconstruction from multiple views, geometric invariants, camera calibration, recognition of objects, content-based image retrieval, video analysis, tracking of rigid and articulated objects, and robot vision. Its work spans both theoretical, methodological, and applied aspects.
Recently MOVI lead the Reactive LTR (Esprit IV) projects 21914 CUMULI (1997-2000) and 26247 VIGOR (1998-2001). In 2000 MOVI started 3 new EC projects, IST-1999-10756 VISIRE (Reconstruction of indoor architectural buildings from an amateur video camera), IST-1999-21125 EVENTS (Computer Vision Enables Non-Constrained Transmission of Scenarios), and FET-Open VIBES (Video Browsing, Exploration, and Structuring). In 2002 MOVI will start the LAVA EC project concerned with statistical models for visual learning and recognition of objects.
