Project-Team Presentation

Joint project-team with CNRS, University Henri Poincaré, University Nancy 2 and INPL.

The research themes of the ORPAILLEUR project-team hold mainly on the design of intelligent systems: knowledge systems, information systems, data mining systems (or knowledge discovery systems). These intelligent systems have various forms and may be used in a number of applicative contexts such as biology, chemistry, space, time, and on the Web.

Research themes

The research topics of the ORPAILLEUR project-team are the following:

  • Knowledge representation, classification-based and case-based reasoning, spatio-temporal reasoning.
  • Knowledge management, information systems, and semantic Web.
  • Knowledge discovery in databases, data mining : symbolic and numerical mining methods, frequent item-sets search, association rule extraction, text mining,, hidden Markov models of higher order for mining, statistical implication and rough sets for data mining.
  • Data mining for biological computing and for planning in organic synthesis.
  • Design of systems associated to these research themes.

International and industrial relations

  • ARC INRIA Escrire: research partnership with EXMO, INRIA Grenoble - Rhône-Alpes research centre and EDELWEISS, INRIA Sophia Antipolis - Méditérannée research centre.
  • Regular research partnership with INRA.
  • The Kasimir project: research partnership with CAV (center of study on cancer in Nancy), and the CNAM laboratory of ergonomy in Paris.
  • The KVM project: research partnership with Kappa (Paris), ECOO (LORIA) and MAIA (LORIA) on knowledge management and corporate knowledge.
  • Close collaborations with the LIRMM laboratory (computer science) and the LSIC laboratory (chemical computing) in Montpellier.
  • Close collaboration with the case-based reasoning team of LISI in Lyon.
  • Collaboration with the national Museum of La Villette in Paris, for the organization of new expositions.
  • Close collaboration with the URI team of INIST in Nancy (work on information systems and bibliometry).
  • Research partnership with Bull for the project Superselect.
  • Regular international relationship with the University of Debrecen (Hungary).
