INRIA, driving enterprise creation since 20 years

INRIA is one of France's main assets in the international challenge of information and communication science and technology. With a staff of 3,500 persons, including 2,700 scientists, in its 6 research units in France, the Institute was instrumental in creating close to 80 technology companies and 120 freely available or marketed software packages. INRIA has been participating in France's economic development since 1994 by fostering the creation of companies whose core business is based on technology developed within the Institute.

INRIA, a source of innovative companies.

The creation of innovative technology companies is one of the vectors used to transform the research work of its research teams into innovations. Due to its expertise in technology transfer, its solid funding means and its relations with regional centers of creation, INRIA stands out as a research institute whose mission also includes employment and value creation.

INRIA, a breeding ground for potential company creators.

he external mobility of its scientists is one of INRIA's trump cards in technology transfer toward the market. This is the reason why the Institute has set up specific measures to foster company creation. INRIA offers its researchers and engineers direct access to its networks and to its INRIA-Transfert subsidiary. The Institute also awards fellowships to young graduates who prepared their Ph.D. in one of its research projects. In addition, as a result of the July 12, 1999 law on innovation and research, INRIA scientists can benefit, in their capacity as civil servants or collaborators of public research institutions, from provisions aimed at facilitating innovative technology company creation.
These measures show the diversity of opportunities offered to the men and women who represent INRIA's life blood.

INRIA helps its startups...
... with a subsidiary dedicated to innovative companies, INRIA-Transfert

To reinforce the creation and development of innovative technology companies, INRIA founded INRIA-Transfert in March 1998. This subsidiary developed a continuous and participative process of selection, attendance, qualification and evaluation of new companies—stemming or not from INRIA—likely to develop technology deployed at INRIA. The best enterprise creation or development projects are distinguished by labels (Pertinence IT ® or Croissance IT ®) and become de facto members of the INRIA-Transfert Club. www.inria-transfert.fr

...and by offering a funding structure, I-Source Gestion.

As early as November 1998, INRIA-Transfert created I-Source Gestion, the first French venture capital structure dedicated to innovative startup funding, in collaboration with AXA Private Equity and CDC Entreprises. This company manages four risk funds, I-Source 1 & 2, C-Source and T-Source. Investment is based on techniques and concepts stemming from research from public and private laboratories. It is made within the European economic area, with a minimum of 80% of the portfolio in France.www.isourcegestion.fr
