Corporate actions of Research & Development
are devoted to large scale development with numerous industrial partnerships.
guarantees the coherence and the proper functioning of the collaboration.
INRIA strengths its involvement in the development of research results
in corporate actions and brings financial support to manage its transfer
and valorization.
Various structures offer means to optimize a maximum impact : consortium
are open structures, while projects in the framework of national
or european networks are closed structures.

In 2007,
two corporate actions are undergoing :
- AIR&D : Consortium for Ambient Intelligence
- Scilab : Interactive software package for
numerical computation

AIR&D :
consortium for Ambient Intelligence
Ambient intelligence is a new field whose goal is to create an intelligent
everyday space that could be used with the same immediacy as the electricity
integrated into the walls of our houses is being used now. Sensors,
interactive screens, input devices for speech, handwriting and tactile
information will allow direct interaction with each house or outdoor
device.
INRIA, Philips Research and Thomson multimedia joined forces in the
AIR&D consortium for Ambient Intelligence Research and Development.
The AIR&D consortiums goal is to carry out research and to
develop the new Ambient Intelligence technology that will be integrated
in the design of tomorrow's homes.
The goal of the consortium is to carry out research on ambient networks,
distributed systems, human-machine interfaces and content management
solutions.
The consortium also has the goal of standardizing the results of its
research work.

Scilab : Interactive software package for
numerical computation
Scilab is a software environment for engineering and scientific
applications. Scilab is
distributed in open source around the world.
On 16 May 2003, twelve organisations (Axs Ingénierie, Cril
Technology, CEA, CNES, Dassault Aviation, EDF, ENPC, Esterel Technologies,
INRIA, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Renault and Thales) combine their
efforts in a consortium, to turn Scilab into a worldwide reference
software for researchers and engineers and as a privileged link between
industrial requirements and scientific progress. The consortium,
which has a dedicated team of developers will be responsible for
the evolution, the development and the promotion of Scilab.
Distributed freely via the Internet since 1994, it has maintained
its popularity with over 10,000 downloads per month from the Scilab
website. Scilab is currently being used in educational and industrial
environnments around the world. Scilab, which is available for Unix/Linux
systems and Windows, is considered as being one of the numerical
computation tools that completely revolutionized research and development
in the field of industrial engineering almost twenty years ago.
This success is mainly due to the fact that Scilab is an open system
allowing a broad spectrum of use : it provides tools that are of
interest to engineering students and research workers alike while
having equally significant relevance for experts in other sectors
such as the car, aviation, aerospace and chemical industries, the
world of finance, etc.
INRIA has taken the initiative to gather industrial and academic
partners to form a consortium while at the same time intensifying
its own commitment with a development team.
Led by Claude Gomez, technical
Director and leader of development team, the consortium also allows
members to contribute to the evolution of the software to meet new
demands; a scientific council and steering committee composed of
representatives elected by members of the consortium define guidelines
for new developments.
With the support of its first French members, the consortium will
now intensify its efforts to include European and International members,
particularly in China where significant involvement has already been
achieved.
