English version French version

As part of EuroBio 2006, the tenth European Biotech Crossroads from 25 to 27 October 2006, INRIA organized a round table entitled "Data Integration, Knowledge Management and Modelling in the Life Sciences". European scientists and industrial players attended to debate this issue. INRIA was also involved in the exhibition with 5 dynamic companies from the bio-industry that specialise in information processing.

EuroBIO2006

INRIA and its partners hope to use this event to meet all players in the field and raise awareness about the benefits of instigating synergies to overcome the major technological challenges in the sector.

INRIA hosted a round table on the Data Integration, Knowledge Management and Modelling in the Life Sciences

Mathematical and Computer Modelling has now vigorously entered the life sciences. In this context, modelling is inevitably multiscale, from the genome at the molecular level up to ecosystems and population studies. However, experimentation and observation plays a central role, with an accumulation of quantitative and qualitative data that has taken on an industrial character. Information processing and modelling techniques - algorithmics, discrete models, knowledge processing, signal processing, statistical learning, automatic control and scientific computing - are necessary to deal with such very large knowledge bases and to simulate the basic mechanisms of life. European scientists and industrial players attended to debate this issue:

Prof. Marc Vasseur, CEO, Sophia BioSystems, Sophia-Antipolis, France
Dr Sandra Orchard, European Bioinformatics Institute, Cambridge, Royaume-Uni
Hidde de Jong, INRIA, Grenoble, France
Prof. Michael Schröder, Biotechnologisches Zentrum, Dresden, Allemagne
Dr Thomas Reiss, Fraunhofer Institute Systems and Innovation Research, Karlsruhe, Allemagne
Dr Miguel Fernandez, INRIA, Rocquencourt, France
Dr Lyse Santoro, IPSEN Group, Paris, France

INRIA's booth

Six INRIA's project-teams (ACACIA, BANG, CARDIOSENSE 3D, CORTEX, ORPAILLEUR and SELECT) were involved in the exhibition like ERCIM and W3C, with Aureus Pharma, Gene IT, Genomining, Genostar et Helios Biosciences, dynamic companies from the bio-industry which are specialized in information processing. On this booth these partners proposed non stop demos and a comprehensive program of presentations to showcase some key research results as well as innovative solutions.
